explosive sailfishing, brusing tarpoon and swordfish nights
Report Date: January 1, 2003
sailfishing south florida (miami) has been out of control, with most of our days having upto 14 hits and landing as many as 11 fish in one day the fishing is hot, and don't think that the sails are the only thing chomping the muttons have been on a rampage in the 70 to 90 feet range with a grouper here and there, and lets not forget the kings but these guys have been pretty consistant year round. In this last week we ran a total of 6 days and did a total of 10 trips, how ! we ran day and night. We started with a sword fish trip that was nothing but trouble, and what i mean as we were letting out the first bait bang ! swordie peeling line and splahing as water as I strap in our guy, luckily the other three trips went as well our best night we had 5 hits and brought 2 to the boat and fought 1 for a good while before pulling the hook and our other nights we hsd at least three hits and fought at least 2 fish to the boat, at night we were also doing some tarpoon fishing with are worst best night going 1 for eleven and what I mean by that is we had two fish run over by the casino boat and the guy fought of the fish for a while and got some great jumps out of them and we also had one night where one guy from VOLVO PENTA battle a fish for three hours and lossing it and another guy from MELTON'S FISHING TACKLE that wanted to break the previous night record on a tarpoon battle with an impressive FOUR (4) hour battle to pass the rod to his partner before landing the fish. Thanks to SPORT FISHING MAGAZINE for hooking us up with those great guys this week. guys the day trips have been awsome sailfish ,muttons , kingfish, and with lotts of luck we had a wahoo in the real close 40 pound range.(no wire leader) so if you can get out there go now the current is good ,there's pleanty of bait, and the edge has a great color and you should also pick up some nice dolphin they have been around, nice 10 to 30 pounders.
